Permanent Teeth
Permanent Teeth Coral Gables
When it comes to replacing missing teeth, there are various options to consider such as dental implants, bridges, and dentures. It is important to have a discussion with your periodontist or dentist about the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment.
Although dental implants are often considered the top choice for missing teeth because of their natural appearance, durability, and long-term benefits, they can be expensive, especially for patients requiring multiple implants. On the other hand, dentures are a more budget-friendly option, but they may not be as convenient or comfortable due to the necessary maintenance and potential for irritation.
A newer tooth replacement technique, known as "All-on-4 implants," "All On 6 Implants," and "Teeth Tomorrow," combines the benefits of implants with the affordability of dentures. These specialized denture-supported implants require fewer implants than traditional methods, making them more cost-effective and reducing recovery time.
How Do Permanent Teeth Restorations Work?
Implant-supported dentures can replace up to 16 teeth in an arch using just a few titanium or zirconia implants. These implants act as artificial tooth roots, providing aesthetics and durability at a lower cost compared to traditional implants.
All on 4 Implants strategically place four implants to support an entire arch. Two implants are placed in the front of the mouth in a traditional manner, while the other two are inserted at a 45-degree angle in the back to avoid the need for a bone graft. This angled placement simplifies the procedure and reduces costs by eliminating the need for additional bone grafts.
The procedure can vary based on the particular brand of entire arch implant-supported dentures you choose. However, to give an idea of the process, we will review the step-by-step process for All-on-4s.
- Begin by scheduling an initial consultation with your dentist to determine if you are a suitable candidate for implant-supported dentures or permanent teeth. Your dentist will use 3D imaging to evaluate your jaw bone structure and plan the aesthetic and functional aspects of your new teeth, such as crown length and bite placement.
- Your dentist will then create a computer simulation of your mouth using 3D imaging to determine the exact placement of each implant. A surgical template may also be prepared to assist in the placement process.
- The surgery will involve the insertion of four implants, as well as any necessary treatments like tooth extraction and bone shaping. The implants will be capped with abutments and temporary teeth while the jaw bone heals and fuses with the implants. It is recommended to follow a soft food diet during this recovery period to protect the osseointegration process.
- After three months, the temporary teeth will be replaced with a permanent denture. Recovery at this stage should be quick and relatively painless.
